A lovely spacious colonial style house set in a serene tropical garden, Surangana has vast columned verandahs and large airy rooms built to allow the breeze to pass through the house. An infinity pool is perched out over the paddy field view on a lower garden level. This is tropical barefoot indoor/outdoor living at its best. Surangana is known for its mesmerizing view and peaceful atmosphere while remaining accessible to Galle Fort and town 10 km away.
Surangana would be ideally suited for 4 adults plus children, though many couples have also stayed here and is much loved by artists, writers and families wanting a serene hideaway in an idyllic setting with wonderful native birdlife.
The original house on the site was a simpler structure upon which the owners extended larger rooms and verandahs using antique doors and windows from the original site as well other houses in the area. It is sited on a small hill overlooking an exceptional 180 degree view of verdant paddy fields, a river and the Koggala Lake in the distance. The area is very rich in birdlife with native Sri Lankan and Indian migrating birds who nest in this area.
The beach is 3km from the villa: an advantage as it is close enough for easy access, and far enough away to be able to maintain the peace and tranquillity of a lush garden and avoid the hustle and bustle of the main Galle road running along the beach
Trees on the property include Cinnamon, Clove, Teak, Estonia, Bamboo, Jackfruit, Nutmeg, Coconut and King Coconut, Frangipani , Avocado, Mango, Papaya and Banana.
Harumalgoda, the village immediately around the property, is made up of rice paddy lands, cinnamon plantations, low country tea plantations and roaming buffaloes providing the milk to make local 'curd' .
Children are welcome at Surangana, though parents would need to be extra cautious of the swimming pool and its dangers.
