Pilana is a delightful property located a few kilometres inland from Galle. The drive through paddy fields and winding roads is picturesque as the villa itself. Situated on a narrow road surrounded by paddy fields, Pilana is a grand old house, which probably once belonged to a village elder or someone equally important. The present owners have restored this lovely property back to its former glory retaining many of its original features. The pristine white washed walls, the polished cement floors, the ornate trellis work over the doors and windows and the terraced gardens are truly beautiful. The interior is not pretentious, it is simple and homely. Some wonderful pieces of traditional antique furniture grace the large rooms. The settees made of cement with colourful cushions, the brightly painted walls and the stylish lamps on the old tables just seem to mix so elegantly together. The emerald green pool, large enough for lengths, blends so perfectly with its surroundings.... For those looking for an occasional dip in the ocean, the beaches are just 15mins drive away. So if you want the best of both, then consider Pilana, a nature lover's haven. Pilana may be rented as 2 separate units. The upstairs bedrooms may be rented separately - perfect for a small family. If rented separately, guests will share the living areas and the pool.

There are 4 bedrooms in total. There are 2 pretty bedrooms located on the first floor reached via a separate wooden staircase. The main bedroom opens onto a very large roof patio with wonderful views of the countryside. There is a large bathroom with a shower and a bath. The second bedroom is currently set with two ornate twin beds to accommodate the owner's small children. The twin room has an ensuite shower and toilet separated by a low wall. This section is perfect for a family and can be rented separately from the main house if required. The other two bedrooms are located on the ground floor. The large Master bedroom with doors leading to the garden is located on the ground floor. Both rooms have ensuite bathrooms. All double beds are antique 4-poster beds with white netting draped over to protect you from the mosquitos at night. All rooms have ceiling fans. There is a further separate 1 bedroom annexe with ensuite facilities next to the pool, which is ideal for a nanny or even a teenager wanting privacy!

There are plenty of areas for relaxing. The verandah facing the pool is probably where you will spend most of your time. Its cool and the pool is just a few steps away to cool you further! The living room is bright and filled with lovely pieces of furniture. The separate dining room is huge ! The table & chairs has been custom built and is fit for a banquet! |

The villa is fully staffed and includes an army of house boys and an accomplished chef. Pilana is self sufficient in the sense that many of its produce are home grown. A range of garden herbs, spices, vegetables and fruit are as fresh as it can get. All meals are for your account. Simply tell the chef what you want and where you want it, and the rest will be taken care of. If you wish, the chef may provide a daily menu, alternatively you can plan your meals with him.
